You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x Christy's age
In 8 years
Collin ....will be
(x+66) + 8 = 3(x+8)
x + 74 = 3x + 24
50 = 2x
25 = x, Christy's age. Collin 91 25%2B66
and checking..in 8 years
99 = 3(33)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let Collin's current age = x
Let Christy's current age = y
Collin is 66 years older than Christy
This means that if we add 66 years to christy's age the total would be Collin's age. This translates algebraically to:
y + 60 = x
In 8 years he will be 3 times her age.
In 8 years means that Collin will be x + 8 years old and Christy will be y + 8 years old. and it says that his age then will be 3 times her age which traslates to:
(x + 8) = 3 * (y + 8)
simplifying this we get
x + 8 = 3y + 24
x = 3y + 16
Now we have 2 equations:
1)x = y + 60
2)x = 3y + 16
If we subtract (1) - (2) we get:
x - x = (y + 60) - (3y + 16)
0 = y + 60 - 3y - 16
0 = -2y + 44
y = 22 which is Christy's age
substitute this value of y in equation 1 or 2 (I will substitute it in 1)
x = y + 60
x = 22 + 60
x = 88
Therefore Collin's current age is 88 years old
