The number of men in a park was 7/10 that of the women. There were 36 more women than men . After some men had left the park. The number of women in the park was 5 times of the remaining men. How many men left the park? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Please help me with this problem.
The number of men in a park was 7/10 that of the women.
m = (7/10)w
-------------------------------
There were 36 more women than men .
w = m + 36
--------------------------------
Solve for m and w::
Substitute for "m" and solve for "w"::
w = (7/10)w+36
(3/10)w = 36
w = 120 (# of women in the park)
m = (7/10)w = (7/10)120 = 84 (# of men in the park)
-------------------------------------
After some men had left the park. The number of women in the park was 5 times of the remaining men. How many men left the park?
men:: 84-x
women:: 120
Equation::
120 = 5(84-x)
24 = 84-x
x = 60 (# of men who left the park)
