Question 894005: Johns mother is 8 more than twice his age. His father is three years older than his mother is. If the three family members have lived a total of 94 years, how old is each family member?
I've tried 94= m(8+2x) + 3f + j

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
m=8%2B2j, Johns mother is 8 more than twice his age;
f=3%2Bm, His father is three years older than his mother is.;
j%2Bm%2Bf=94, the three family members have lived a total of 94 years.

That is a system of three linear equations in three unknown variables. Handle the solution any way you want: Substitution, Elimination, or Matrix Operations.

Using matrix row operations, I found f=36, j=25, m=33

Starting matrix in form f,j,m,C:

Final matrix after the row operations :

I've tried 94= m(8+2x) + 3f + j

Let John's age be J
Then Mom's is: 2J + 8
Dad's: 2J + 8 + 3, or 2J + 11
Therefore, J + 2J + 8 + 2J + 11 = 94
5J = 94 - 19
5J = 75
J, or John's current age is: 75%2F5, or highlight_green%28highlight_green%2815%29%29
You should be able to find Mom's and Dad's!!
Then do a check!!
