Question 870614: Raven is twice as old as Mica. Five years ago, Mica was three times as old as Raven. What is their present age?
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! There is no scenario where that is possible. If the question read, "Five years ago, Raven was three times as old as Micah," they would be 10(M) and 20(R).
.
Let's look at the possibilities:
Since they cannot be a negative age, the youngest Micah can be is 6.
If Micah is 6, then Raven is 12. Five years ago, Micah is 1 and Raven is 7.
When M = 7, R = 14. -5 -> they are 2 and 9
When M=8, R=16. -5 -> 3, 11
When M = 50, R=100. -5 -> 45, 95
.
Are you sure this is written down correctly?
