You can put this solution on YOUR website! Well, we know who HIS favorite was!
D = 2Y [dudley (Y) was to get half as much as Dolores (D)]
2M = Y [Dimpy (M) was to get half as much as Dudley.] or, M = .5Y
.
D + M + Y = 147,000
Let's substitute values so that they're all Y
(2Y) + (.5Y) + Y = 147000
Add
3.5Y = 147000
Divide each side by 3.5
Y = 42,000
If Dudley gets 42k and that is half as much as Dolores, then Dolores gets 84k.
If Dudley gets 42k and Dimpy gets half that much, then Dimpy gets 21k.
42k + 84k = 21k = 147k
