You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The sum of the ages of a woman and her daughter is 46years.
w + d = 46
or
d = (46-w)
;
In four years time the ratio of there ages will be 7:2
%28%28w%2B4%29%29%2F%28%28d%2B4%29%29 = 7%2F2
Cross multiply
2(w+4) = 7(d+4)
2w + 8 = 7d + 28
2w = 7d + 28 - 8
2w = 7d + 20
replace d with (46-w)
2w = 7(46-w) + 20
2w = 322 - 7w + 20
2w + 7w = 342
9w = 342
w = 342/9
w = 38 yrs is the woman's age

I'll let you find the daughter's age, check your solutions in both statements
