Let Sarah's current age be S
Then the niece's current age is , or since Sarah is 5 times older than her niece or the niece is Sarah's age
In 5 years, Sarah will be S + 5, and the niece will be
Since in 5 years, Sarah will be 3 times the niece's age, then we can say that:
Solve this for S, or Sarah's current age, and don't forget to check to make sure that Sarah's age is indeed what you calculated it to be.
