Question 724668: QUESTION - The present ages of three portraits are in the ration of 1 to 3 to 4. In three years, the sum of their ages will be 49 years. Find the present ages of the portraits.
I understand ratios, and I understand how they all would add up to 49 years. I don’t understand how to use them in this format w/the additional comparison. I tried to fill in as much as I could, but I know I’m way off. Once I get the setup I can complete the problem.
PORTRAIT 1 : Now = x -> In 3 Years = x+3
PORTRAIT 2 : Now = x+3 -> In 3 Years = (x+3)+3
PORTRAIT 3 : Now = x+4 -> In 3 Years = (x+4)+3

You can put this solution on YOUR website! QUESTION - The present ages of three portraits are in the ration of 1 to 3 to 4. In three years, the sum of their ages will be 49 years. Find the present ages of the portraits
-------------------
1 to 3 to 4 is the same as x to 3x to 4x
-----
Equation:
x+3 + 3x+3 + 4x+3 = 49
----
8x = 40
------------
x = 5 yrs
----
3x = 15 yrs
----
4x = 20 yrs
