You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The sum of the ages of a mother and her daughter are 44,3 years ago the product of their age was 192. How old is d daughter now?
Let d = daughter's age
and m = mom's age
.
from:"The sum of the ages of a mother and her daughter are 44"
d+m = 44
so,
m = 44-d
.
from:"3 years ago the product of their age was 192. How old is d daughter now?"
(d-3)(m-3) = 192
(d-3)(44-d-3) = 192
(d-3)(-d+41) = 192
-d^2+41d+3d-123 = 192
-d^2+44d-123 = 192
-d^2+44d-315 = 0
d^2-44d+315 = 0
d^2-9d-35d+315 = 0
(d^2-9d)-(35d-315) = 0
d(d-9)-35(d-9) = 0
(d-9)(d-35) = 0
d = {9,35}
The daughter is 9 years old

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +m+ = age of Mother 3 years ago
Let +d+ = age of Daughter 3 years ago
+m+%2B+3+ = mother's age now
+d+%2B+3+ = Daughter's age now
given:
(1) +%28+m+%2B+3+%29+%2B+%28+d+%2B+3+%29+=+44+
(2) +m%2Ad+=+192+
------------------
(1) +m+%2B+d+%2B+6+=+44+
(1) +m+%2B+d+=+38+
(1) +m+=+38+-+d+
and
(2) +%28+38+-+d+%29%2Ad+=+192+
(2) +38d+-+d%5E2+=+192+
(2) +-d%5E2+%2B+38d+=+192+
(2) +d%5E2+-+38d+=+-192+
(2) +d%5E2+-+38d+%2B+%2838%2F2%29%5E2+=+-192+%2B+%2838%2F2%29%5E2+
(2) +d%5E2+-+38d+%2B+361+=+-192+%2B+361+
(2) +%28+d+-+19+%29%5E2+=+169+
(2) +%28+d+-+19+%29%5E2+=+13%5E2+
Take the square root of both sides
(2) +d+-+19+=+13+
(2) +d+=+32+
and, since
(1) +m+=+38+-+d+
(1) +m+=+38+-+32+
(1) +m+=+6+
-------------
This didn't work because the Daughter is 32 ( 3 yrs ago )
and the Mother is 6 ( 3 yrs ago ). To make it right, just take the
negative square root of +13%5E2+ a few steps aback
(2) +%28+d+-+19+%29%5E2+=+13%5E2+
(2) +d+-+19+=+-13+
(2) +d+=+19+-+13+
(2) +d+=+6+
Now it works out- the Daughter was 6 three years ago,
so now the Daughter is 9 now.
check answer:
(2) ++m%2Ad+=+192+
(2) ++32%2A6+=+192+
(2) +192+=+192+
OK
