Cody is twice as old as Evan's age highlight%28x%29  and

Evan's age:  x

Cody's age: 2x 

nine years ago the sum of their age was 6. 

 (x-9) + (2x-9) = 6

      3x - 18 = 6

          3x = 24

           x = 8, Evan's age.  Cody is 16
