You can put this solution on YOUR website! Need help with one-half of Heather's age two years from now plus one-third of her age three years ago is twenty years. How old is she now? We set it up as 1/2x +2 + 1/3x-3 =20 correct?
I would say that 1/2x +2 + 1/3x-3 =20 is CORRECT, but INCORRECTLY displayed, as it's confusing. You need to use parentheses, as follows:
(1/2)(x + 2) + (1/3)(x - 3) = 20. This makes it a lot less confusing.
Let Heather’s current age be H
Then 2 years from now, she’ll be H + 2, and 3 years ago, she was H - 3
Therefore,
3(H + 2) + 2(H – 3) = 120 --------- Multiplying by LCD, 6
3H + 6 + 2H – 6 = 120
3H + 2H = 120
5H = 120
H, or Heather’s current age = , or
