Dad's age = x years
my age = x/8
Now
Dad's age = x+5
my age = x/8 +5
sum of ages is 55
%28x%2F8%29+%2Bx%2B+5%2B5=55
%28x%2F8%29+%2Bx%2B+10+=+55
multiply equation by 8, the LCD
x+8x 80 = 55*8
9x+80 = 440
9x= 360
x= 40
Dad's age 5 years ago = 40 years
Now his age is 40 +5 = 45 years.
My age was 40/8 = 5 years.
Now my age is 5 + 5 = 10 years
