You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let's write this mathematically.
I am twice as old as you were when I was of your age. (2x) Sum of your and my age is 42 years. (+x)
2x%2Bx=42
That can simplify to: 3x=42
Divide both sides by 3 to get: x=14.
Since your age is 2x, we substitute our value for x in. 2%2814%29%2B28
Your age is 28.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +a+ = my age now
Let +b+ = your age now
The difference in our ages will always be the same
That difference is +a+-+b+ ( I am older )
I was your age +a+-+b+ years ago, so I was
+a+-+%28+a+-+b+%29+ years old then.
You were +b+-+%28a+-+b%29+=+2b+-+a+ years old then.
given:
(1) +a+=+2%2A%28+2b+-+a+%29+
(2) +a+%2B+b+=+42+
-----------------------
(1) +a+=+4b+-+2a+
(1) +3a+=+4b+
(1) +b+=+%283%2F4%29%2Aa+
By substitution:
(2) +a+%2B+%283%2F4%29%2Aa+=+42+
(2) +%287%2F4%29%2Aa+=+42+
(2) +a+=+%284%2F7%29%2A42+
(2) +a+=+24+
and, since
(2) +a+%2B+b+=+42+
(2) +b+=+42+-+24+
(2) +b+=+18+
I am 24
