You can put this solution on YOUR website!

John's age increased by 11 is 5 less than 5 times his age.

Replace the words "John's age" and "his age" by "x":

x increased by 11 is 5 less than 5 times x.

Replace the words "x increased by 11" by "x + 11":

x + 11 is 5 less than 5 times x.

Replace the words "5 times x" by "5x":

x + 11 is 5 less than 5x.

To make 5x less we subtract from it. So replace "5 less than 5x" by "5x - 5"

x + 11 is 5x - 5.

Replace the word "is" by " = ":

x + 11 = 5x - 5
