You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The ages of two friends is in the ratio 6:5.
The sum of their ages is 66.
:
Let x = the multiplier
then
6x + 5x = 66
11x = 66
x = 66/11
x = 6 is the multiplier
then the ages of the friends will be:
6(6) = 36 yrs
and
6(5) = 30 yrs old
:
After how many years will the ages be in the ratio 8:7?
let y = no. of yrs for this to be true
%2836%2By%29%2F%2830%2By%29 = 8%2F7
cross multiply
8(30+y) = 7(36+y)
240 + 8y = 252 + 7y
8y - 7y = 252 - 240
y = 12 yrs for their ratio to be 8:7

Check this, in 12 yrs
48:42 = 8:7
