George is twice as old as paul

Let p and 2p represent paul and george's ages respectively

Question states***Togather, george and Paul have lived 18 years

 highlight%28p%29 + 2p = 18

   3p = 18

    p = 6, paul's age.  George is 12  (2*6)

CHECKING our Answer*** 

 6 + 12 = 18
