You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A man is 4 times as old as his son.
m = 4s
:
5 years ago, the man was 9 times as old as his son was at that time.
m - 5 = 9(s-5)
m - 5 = 9s - 45
m = 9s - 45 + 5
m = 9s - 40
Replace m with 4s (from the 1st statement equation}
4s = 9s - 40
40 = 9s - 4s
40 = 5s
s = 40%2F5
s = 8 yrs
then
4(8) = 32 yrs is the present age of the man

Check solution in the statement:
"5 years ago, the man was 9 times as old as his son was at that time."
32 - 5 = 9(8 - 5)
27 = 9(3)
