there were seven fewer quarters than nickels

Let x and (x-7)represent the number of nickels and quarters respectively

Question states*** Using CENTS

 5x + 25(x-7) = 215



Solving

   30x = 390

     x = 13, nickels and 6 Quarters



CHECKING our Answer*** 

   5*13 + 25*6 = 215 or $2.15
