let n be your brother's age and n+10 is your age. You want to know when you are twice the age of your brother. Or in other words when your age divided by your brothers age is 2. This can be expressed using algebra:
(n+10)/n = 2
n+10 = 2n (Multiply each side by n
n = 10 (take n from each side)
so when your brother is 10 you will be twice his age.
Therefore in 8 years time you will be twice his age.
