You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Five years ago, Jhons age was half of the age he will be in 8 years. How old is he now?

Step 1. Let x be the age of Jhons.

Step 2. Let x-5 be the age of Jhons five years ago.

Step 3. Let x+8 be the age of Jhons 8 years from now.

Step 4. Then x-5=%28x%2B8%29%2F2 since five years ago, Jhons age was half of the age he will be in 8 years

Step 5. Solving the equation in Step 4 yields the following steps

Multiply by 2 to get rid of the denominator

2%2A%28x-5%29=2%2A%28x%2B8%29%2F2

2x-10=x%2B8

Add 10-x to both sides of the equation

2x-10%2B10-x=x%2B8%2B10-x

x=18

Check equation in Step 4 x-5=%28x%2B8%29%2F2 or 18-5=%2818%2B8%29%2F2. Then 13=13 which is a true statement.

Step 6. ANSWER: The age of Jhons is 18 years old.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
