You can put this solution on YOUR website! Diego is twice as old as Anna now.
d = 2a
:
Six years ago, Diego was triple Anna's age.
d - 6 = 3(a-6)
d - 6 = 3a - 18
d = 3a - 18 + 6
d = 3a - 12
:
Find both their present ages please.
:
Substitute 2a for d in the above equation:
2a = 3a - 12
2a - 3a = -12
-a = -12
a = 12 is Anna's present age
then
2(12) = 24 is D's present age
:
:
Check solution in the statement:
"Six years ago, Diego was triple Anna's age."
24 - 6 = 3(12-6)
18 = 3(6)
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Diego is twice as old as Anna now. Six years ago, Diego was triple Anna's age. Find both their present ages please.
Step 1. Let x=Anna's age
Step 2. Let 2x= Diego's age
Step 3. Six years ago, we have the following:
2x-6 is age of Diego six years ago
x-6 is age of Anna six years ago
based on the problem statement: "Six years ago, Diego was triple Anna's age."
Step 4. Simplify last equation in Step 3
Subtract 2x from both sides of equation
Now add 18 to both sides to isolate x
Step 4. Anna's age is 12 and Diego age is 24 since he's twice as old as Anna.
As a check, 6 years ago: Anna is 6 years old and Diego is 18 years old. This agees with the problem statement of 6 years ago.
