You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let represent Jorge's age now.

Let represent Maria's age now.

Two years from now, Jorge will be so:

Ten years from now, Jorge will be so:

Solve the system for and . Use the elimination method beginning with multiplying the first equation by -1. Then adding the equations will give you Maria's age directly.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let j= Jorge's age now
Let m= Maria's age now
given:
Jorge's age in 2 years will be
j+%2B+2
Jorge's age in 10 years will be
j+%2B+10
(1) j+%2B+2+=+3m
(2) j+%2B+10+=+4m
Subtract (1) from (2)
j+%2B+10+=+4m
-j+-+2+=+-3m
8+=+m
And, since
j+%2B+2+=+3m
j+%2B+2+=+3%2A8
j+=+24+-+2
j+=+22
Currently, Maria is 8 and Jorge is 22
