Question 1187465: The sum of the age of the two sisters is 35. The age of the older sister is 2 more than twice the age of younger sister, how old are they now? Found 2 solutions by josgarithmetic, ikleyn:Answer by josgarithmetic(39620) (Show Source):
Let x be the age of the younger sister.
Then the age of the older sister is (2x+2) ("2 more than twice the age of younger sister").
The sum of their ages is 35:
x + (2x+2) = 35.
Simplify and find x
3x + 2 = 35
3x = 35 - 2 = 33
x = 33/3 = 11.
The younger sister is 11 years old.
The older sister is then 2*x+2 = 2*11+2 = 22+2 = 24 years old.
