            This problem suites very well to be solved  MENTALLY.


3 years ago, Tom was 3 years older than Molly, and was, at the same time, twice as old as Molly.


At this point, it becomes clear that 3 years ago, Tom was 6 years old, while Molly was 3 years old.


Hence, now they are 6 years old (Molly) and 9 years old (Tom).

Solved.
