You can put this solution on YOUR website!
S = Simon's present age
s = son's present age
Write an equation for each statement
:
Simon is now 4 times as old as his son 5 years ago.
S = 4(s-5)
S = 4s - 20
Simon is exactly one and half times as old as his son will be 10 years from now
S = 1.5(s+10)
S = 1.5s + 15
Replace S with (4s-20)
4s - 20 = 1.5s + 15
4s - 1.5s = 15 + 20
2.5s = 35
s = 35/2.5
s = 14 yrs is son's age
:
Determine Simon's present age??
S = 4(14-5)
S = 4(9)
S = 36 yrs is Simon's age
:
Check in the 2nd equation
S = 1.5(14+10)
S = 1.5(24)
S = 36

If the answer from the other tutor is not what you expected, then my suggestion to you is that you learn how to write....

I suspect the problem is supposed to be this:

"Simon is now 4 times as old as his son. 5 years ago, Simon was exactly one and a half times as old as his son will be 10 years from now. Determine Simon's present age."

Let x be the son's age; then Simon's age is 4x.

Simon's age 5 years ago was 4x-5; the son's age 10 years from now will be x+10.

Simon's age 5 years ago is 1.5 times the son's age 10 years from now:

4x-5+=+1.5%28x%2B10%29
4x-5+=+1.5x%2B15
2.5x+=+20
x+=+20%2F2.5+=+8

ANSWER: Simon's age is 4x = 32.

CHECK: Simon's age 5 years ago was 32-5 = 27; the son's age 10 years from now will be 8+10 = 18. 27 = 1.5(18).
