The difference of three times Faye’s age and four times Joshua’s age is 31. If Faye’s age is five more than twice Joshua’s age, how old is Faye?
Let Faye's, and Joshua's ages be F and J, respectively
Then we get: 3F + 4J = 31 ------ eq (i)
Also, F = 2J + 5____F - 2J = 5 ------ eq (ii)
Multiply eq (ii) by 2 to get eq (iii), and then add eqs (iii) and (i).
This will ELIMINATE J, or Joshua's age and give you Faye's!
