From the condition


    3x + 14 = 5*(x-2).


Simplify and solve


    3x + 14 = 5x - 10

    14 + 10 = 5x - 3x

    24      = 2x

     x      = 24/2 = 12.


ANSWER.  Alex is 12 years old now.
