You can put this solution on YOUR website!

let Stephen's age be x and Wendy's age y
if Stephen is 64 years younger than Wendy, we have
x=y-64.....eq.1

if 7 years ago, Wendy's age was 3 times Stephen's age,we have
y-7=3%28x-7%29.......substitute x from eq.1 and solve for y
y-7=3%28y-64-7%29
y-7=3%28y-71%29
y-7=3y-213
213-7=3y-y
206=2y
y=103
go to
x=y-64.....eq.1, substitute y
x=103-64
x=39
Stephen is 39 old now

Stephen is 64 years younger than Wendy. 7 years ago, Wendy's age was 3 times Stephen's age. How old is Stephen now?
This is EXTREMELY SIMPLE....much, much SIMPLER than the other person makes it out to be. Plus, the question asks for STEPHEN'S AGE, not Wendy's!
Let Stephen's age be S
Then Wendy's is: S + 64
We then get: S + 64 - 7 = 3(S - 7)
S + 57 = 3S - 21
S - 3S = - 21 - 57
- 2S = - 78
S, or
