11 years ago, the sum of their ages was 82 - 2*11 = 60 years, and Jake was 3 times Marian's age.

Hence, 11 years ago Marian was 60:4 = 15 years and Jake was 3*15 = 45 years old.

Hence, now Marian is 15+11 = 26 years old; Jake is 45+11 = 56 years old. ANSWER

Solved.

The sum of the ages of Jake and Mariah is 82 years. 11 years ago, Jake's age was 3 times Mariah's age. How old is Jake now?
Let Jake's age be J
Then Mariah's is 82 - J
Eleven years ago, Jake was 3 times Mariah's age, and so, we get: J - 11 = 3(82 - J - 11)
J - 11 = 3(71 - J)
J - 11 = 213 - 3J
J + 3J = 213 + 11
4J = 224
J, or Jake is: highlight_green%28matrix%281%2C4%2C+224%2F4%2C+%22=%22%2C+56%2C+years-old%29%29
