The sum of the ages of Kyle and Meredith is 68 years. 8 years ago, Kyle's age was 3 times Meredith's age. How old is Kyle now?
Let Kyle's and Meredith's ages be K and M, respectively
Then we get: K + M = 68_____M = 68 - K ------ eq (i)
Also, K - 8 = 3(M - 8) ------ eq (ii)
K - 8 = 3(68 - K - 8) ------- Substituting 68 - K for M in eq (ii)
K - 8 = 3(60 - K)
K - 8 = 180 - 3K
4K = 188
