58 = 2a - 8

add 8 to both sides of this equation to get 58 + 8 = 2a

divide both sides of this equation by 2 to get 33 = a

that's ashley's age.

58 = 8 years younger than 2 times 33 which is equal to 8 years younger than 66 which is equal to 58 which is true.
