Question 1126052: Hi!
I have an algebra word problem that says:
A man's age is now five ninths of what it will be in 18 years from now. How old is he now?
I started the problem and decided the equation would be x=5/9(18+x), but I never get a whole number. Could you explain this a little more in depth with me? And if your equation is different than mine, could you also explain how you got the equation?
Thank you so much!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A man's age is now five ninths of what it will be in 18 years from now. How old is he now?
:
I think your equation is correct
x = 5%2F9(x+18)
9x = 5(x+18)
9x = 5x + 90
9x - 5x = 90
4x = 90
x = 90/4
x = 22.5, not an integer
but it checks out
22.5 = 5%2F9(22.5+18)
22.5 = 5%2F9(40.5)
22.5 = 22.5
Whoever created this problem, screwed it up!
