Question 1119819: Dear Teacher,
Please help me with this word problem. I am getting confused.
1) Find two numbers such that if 7 added to the larger number, the value obtained is four times the smaller number and if 28 is added to the smaller number, the value obtained is twice the larger number.
2) Jenny has a younger sister Rose. Five years ago, Jenny was 10 times as old as Rose. Three years from now, Jenny will be twice as old as Rose.
a) What are Jenny and Rose's present age?
b) How old was Jenny when Rose was born?
Thank you teacher!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Too many question parts.

#1 only:
x and y;
system%28x%3Cy%2Cy%2B7=4x%2Cx%2B28=2y%29

Solve for x and y.

x=6 and y=17

(still requesting help on #2)
Assign variables to each person's age. Follow the description literally and write the equations as described, and then solve the system.

Jenny's age, j
Sister Rose's age, r
r%3Cj

Five Years Ago: j-5 and r-5, their ages;
j-5=10%28r-5%29

Three years from now: J+3 and r-3, their ages;
j%2B3=2%28r-3%29

Continue from there.
