What is the age of Ali when his father is 40 year old.
replace f with 40 in the above equation
2a = 40 + 4
2a = 44
a = 44/2
a = 22 is Ali's age

As this post is formulated and presented, the problem makes no sense.
It WOULD make sense if re-formulated in this way (for example):
If twice the age of Ali is four more than the age of his father, who is 40 year old, find the age of Ali.
And if this formulation is what you want, then the solution is in one line:
Ali's age is  =  = 22 years.
But I think that it is not my duty to hypothesize what is the correct formulation in this case.

I also clearly understand that this problem came not from a textbook, and even not from the teacher's assignment paper.
Hence, somebody tries to create his own formulation (OR tries to help somebody, after getting this formulation from the phone, probably ?)
