You can put this solution on YOUR website!
j = 4m
j+6+m+6 = 47 substitute for j:
4m+6+m+6 = 47
5m+12 = 47
5m = 35
m = 7 so michelle is 7
and jane is 4 times older:
jane = 4(7) = 28 years old

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Their ages are x and 4x; the sum of their ages is x+4x=5x.

If the sum of their ages in 6 years will be 47, the sum of their ages now is 47-2*6 = 35.

So 5x=35 --> x=7.

Their ages now are x=7 and 4x=28.

Answer: Jane is now 28.
