You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jack=x Jill=y
x=+3y-5
x%2By=23 so
%283y-5%29%2By=23 in other words,
3y%2By=23-5 if you simplify that,
3y%2By=18
4y=18
4y%2F4=18%2F4
y=4.5 I don’t think you wrote the problem correctly.

Jill has x marbles.
Jack has 3x-5 marbles.

Together Jack and Jill have 23 marbles, given.
%283x-5%29%2Bx=23

Solve that equation for x and evaluate 3x-5.
3x-5%2Bx=23
3x%2Bx=23%2B5
4x=28
highlight%28x=7%29-----------Jill has 7 marbles.

-
3%2A7-5
21-5
highlight%2816%29-------------Jack has 16 marbles.
