You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
The literal translation of words to Math is THIS:

M + 4 = 5*(D+4),        (1)
M     = 9D.             (2)

Substitute eq(2) into eq(1) to get

9D + 4 = 5*(D+4),

9D + 4 = 5D + 20  ====>  9D - 5D = 20 - 4  ====>  4D = 16  ====>  D = 16%2F4 = 4.

Answer. Daughter is 4 years old. The mother is 9*4 = 36 years old.
