N-6 = 5(M-6)

Solve for "N":
Substitute for "N" and solve for "M"::
2M-6 = 5M - 30
3M = 24
M = 8

So, N = 2M = 16

Present ages, M=8 and N=16.

Six years ago, N-6=16-6=10.
