Sue = Mary+2
S-11 = 2(M-11) substitute here for Sue
M+2-11 = 2M-22
M-9 = 2M-22
-M = -13 multiply both sides times -1
M = 13 Mary is 13

Check:
Sue is M+2 = 13+2 = 15
and
S-11 = 2(M-11)
15-11 = 2(13-11)
4 = 26-22 Correct.

Mary's age now = M
Sue's age 11 years ago = S-11
Mary's age 11 years ago = M-11

Sue is two years older than Mary.

S-11 = 2(M-11)
