You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +a+ = Brian's age now
Let +b+ = his brother's age now
----------------------------------
(1) +a+=+b+-+7+
(2) +b+%2B+2+=+2a+
----------------------
(1) +b+=+a+%2B+7+
Plug this result into (2)
(2) +a+%2B+7+%2B+2+=+2a+
(2) +a+=+9+
and
(1) +b+=+a+%2B+7+
(1) +b+=+9+%2B+7+
(1) +b+=+16+
----------------------------
Brian is 9
His brother is 16
------------------------
check:
In 2 yrs, his brother will be 18
That is twice Brian's age now
OK

Hello,

I am not about the solution: it is right and correct.

I am about the formulation the problem.

It seems to be strange and goes out of English and out of common logic.

The correct formulation should be like this:

Brian is seven years younger than his brother. In two years his brother will be twice as old as Brian is now.
How old is Brian and his brother now ?
