M      = 3S,         (1)
M + 10 = 2*(S+10).   (2)

Substitute (1) into (2). You will get

3S + 10 = 2*(S+10)  --->  3S + 10 = 2S + 20  --->  S = 10.

Answer. The son is 10 years now.  The mother's present age is 30 years.
