Pete is 12 years old and his grandfather is 63 years old. In how many years will Pete's age be 1/4 that of his grandfather?
---------------------------------------------------------------

Solve this equation:

4*(12+x) = 63+x,

48 + 4x = 63 + x,

3x = 63 - 48 = 15,

x = 15%2F3 = 5.

Answer. In 5 years.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
P=Pete's age=12; G=grandfather's age=63; x=years until Pete's age is 1/4 grandfather's
.
P+x=(1/4)(G+x)
12+x=(1/4)(63+x)
12+x = 63/4 + x/4
3x/4=63/4-48/4
3x/4=15/4
3x=15
x=5
.
ANSWER: In 5 years Pete's age will be 1/4 his grandfather's age
.
CHECK:
P+x=(1/4)(G+x)
12+5=(1/4)(63+5)
17=(1/4)(68)
17=17
