The Area of the parallelogram is 96 square miles. Find its base and height.
Then it has a picture of a parallelogram with the height as (x-5) and the base as (x+5).
The formula is A=B(H)
So I tried..
96=(x+5)(x-5)
I then multiplied out..
getting x2 -5x +5x-25-96 ( because I had to get the equation equal to zero so..
x2-71 is what i got and the answer is supposed to be Base 16mi and height 6 mi but i do not understand how to get that. Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! (x+5)(x-5)=96
x^2-25 = 96
x^2 = 121
x= +11 or x=-11
Since we want positive measurements look at
x+5 = 11+5= 16 and
x-5 = 11-5= 6
