Question 1191513: Question 1
please help me with this question.
If the universal set U= {l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z}
A= {z,y,x,w,v,u}
B= {x,w,v,t,s,r}
C= {u,v,p,q,r}

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

A U B ={z,y,x,w,v,u} U {x,w,v,t,s,r}= { r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z}

Answer: {r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z}

Reasoning:
Here are the elements of set A in red
A = {z,y,x,w,v,u}
and here's set B in blue
B= {x,w,v,t,s,r}

The union of these two sets means we group them all together as one big set like this
A U B = {z,y,x,w,v,u, x,w,v,t,s,r}
You can think of "union" as in a "marriage union". Person A's stuff is grouped with person B's stuff when they get married.

Convention is to sort the items alphabetically to make things a bit nicer and more standard
A U B = {r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z}
This describes the set of items found in set A, set B, or both sets at the same time.
Notice how I tossed out duplicate entries.

To check your answer, you can type in "{z,y,x,w,v,u} union {x,w,v,t,s,r}" without quotes into WolframAlpha and it will display the result of {r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z}
