Question 263471: Can someone please help me!!! I do not understand the truth tables at all and I believe that is what I have to do with each one of these statements.
8. Determine which, if any, of the three statements are equivalent. Give a reason for your conclusion. Show complete work
I) If the dog licks her nose, then the dog is not happy.
II) If the dog licks her nose, then the dog is happy.
III) If the dog is not happy, then the dog does not lick her nose.
a. I, II, and III are equivalent
b. I and II are equivalent
c. II and III are equivalent
d. I and III are equivalent
e. None are equivalent

II) If the dog licks her nose, then the dog is happy.
III) If the dog is not happy, then the dog does not lick her nose.
the emotion of the dog before and after is the key
I) doesnt say if dog was happy or unhappy before
II) doesnt say if the dog was happy or unhappy before
III) the dog remains unhappy if the dog doesnt lick her nose, we dont know if the dog becomes happy after licking her nose or when the dog is happy will actually lick her nose. (maybe this dog doesnt like licking)
a) I, II and III cant be equivalent if I and II are opposite
b) I and II are opposite so they cant be equivalent
c) II and III makes the possibility of I and III unequivalent
d) I and III makes the possibility of II and III unequivalent
E) all are not equivalent because theres not sufficiant enough information to make one equivalent to another. theres to many extra possibilities
if im wrong sry but i tried to find any way these could be the same
