Question 188821: According to data from the US Census Bureau, the population P of Cleveland, Ohio (in thousands) in year x can be approximated b P(x)=.08x^2-13.08x+927, where x=0 corresponds to 1950. In what calendar year, is the population about 1,000,000?
I have tried setting the equation to 1,000,000 (for example: 1,000,000=.08x^2-13.08x+927), but when I solve it, I come out with some outrageous number for the year... could you please show me the steps as to how I am supposed to set it up? I can preform the math, I am just unsure of the set up.

Question 189083: A rocket is launched from Venus with a velocity of 100 ft/sec. The gravity on Venus is 28.8 ft/sec squared. After 3 seconds, how high will the rocket be? (Use the formula y=1/2gt squared + vt + s where g is the gravity, v is velocity and s is initial height). How long does it take the rocket to land? To reach its maximum height? What is the maximum height of the rocket?

Question 189152: I would appreciate it if you can help me this is a Quadratic function question.
I would try to begin but I have no idea on how to start.
1) A ball is thrown upward with an initial velocity of 32 ft./sec from a height of six ft.
The function s(t)=-16t*+32t+6 gives the height of the ball t seconds after release. Determine the time when the ball is at maximum height, and find that height.
2) Jessica can be paid one of two ways for painting a house:
Plan A: $200 plus $12 per hour
Plan B: $20 per hour
Suppose the job takes n hours to complete. For what values of n is Plan A better for Jessica?
3) In a study, it was found that the threshold weight, W, defined as the weight above which the risk of death rises dramatically, is given by
W(h)=( h/12.3) cube
Find the threshold weight for someone 5 ft 7 inches tall.

Question 189532: What is the difference between y=-f(x) and y=f(-x)?
The text gives an explanation on page 580, but I don't know how it would look with an actual equation. I can certainly read that y=-f(x) reflects y=f(x) vertically across the x-axis, and y=f(-x) reflects horizontally across the y-axis.
What I'm having difficulty understanding is, for a quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c, does -f(x) make it -ax^2+bx+c, or does it make it -ax^2-bx-c?
What about f(-x)?
