I'm not sure how to figure out this problem. It has to do with a quadratic equation and parabola.
Question:
1. A home satellite dish is 56cm across and 7cm deep. The cross-section is parabolic in shape.
a. What quadratic function describes the shape of the cross-section of this satellite dish?
b.To the nearest tenth of a centimeter, how deep is the dish 16cm from the edge?
I'm pretty sure there is some kind of formula you'd use to figure this out but I don't know what it is.

Question 877947: 2x^2+3x-9=0 Complete the Square.
I know how to do it all the way up till when it should look like this: x^2+ (3x/2)+(9/16)=(81/4)+(9/16). It's adding the fractions to the right that doesn't make sense. I get 90/64, but mymathlab tells me i should have 81/16. **ugh* my mathlab makes everything more complicated by making me square root and square and cube fractions, and not put it in decimal form, so some help would be much obliged.

Question 877951: Why can't(-9+ sqrt(21))/6 be simplified further if all 3 numbers are multiples of three? Shouldn't you get "-3+7, which gives you 4 from dividing the numerator by 6? or at least 9+ sqrt(7)/2? By the way the question is (3x+3)(x+2)=1 solve by quadratic formula. The help would be much obliged.
