Dimensions x and y.

2x+2y=90 and xy=450. Also, the coefficients and constant in the perimeter equation all EVEN so that can be simplified as x+y=45. The "90" equation is really the one for calculating the perimeter.

You can solve the system through solving for either x or y from perimeter equation and substitute into the area equation.

Let length and width be L, and W, respectively

Then, equation for the perimeter is: highlight_green%28highlight_green%282L+%2B+2W+=+90%29%29

2L + 2W = 90_____2(L + W) = 2(45)_____L + W = 45_____L = 45 - W

Equation for area: W(45 - W) = 450_____45W+-+W%5E2+=+450______ highlight_green%28highlight_green%28A%28W%29+=+-+W%5E2+%2B+45W+-+450%29%29
