First, equate to zero:
x%5E2-5x-6=0
When factoring something like this, you need to think
of what factors of -6, when combined, add up to 5. Well,
I know that 1%2A%28-6%29=-6, and 6-1=5, so these are
my factors.
You can rewrite this as follows:
%28x%2B1%29%28x-6%29=0
Multiply this out to prove to yourself that the result
is the initial equation.
To solve this, equate each factor to 0, and solve for x:
x=-1 and x=6
These are your answers.
