Question 678198: Hello, I need help with a quadratic equation. I get stuck at the part where I need to simplify inside the radical. The problem I am currently on is: +2x%5E2-7x-5=0+
Thank you for your help.
P.S. I need to leave the answer in radical form.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+2x%5E2-7x-5=0+
to solve, you can apply the "quadratic formula":
[-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac)]/(2a)
[-(-7) +- sqrt((-7)^2 - 4(2)(-5))]/(2*2)
[7 +- sqrt(49 - (-40))]/(4)
[7 +- sqrt(49+40)]/4
[7 +- sqrt(89)]/4
but, since 89 is "prime" you cannot simplify underneath the radical.
giving you the answer of:
7/4 +- sqrt(89)/4
